What is a lift?
A lift is a device that provides accessibility between two or more levels with an altitude difference. This is a product tested and certified at the factory. It is available and ready for use with some final assembly, connection and support work (by a special technical team) at the place of installation. No permit is required for its installation. As a lifting machine it has specific characteristics:
- 1. Its speed does not exceed 0.15 meters per second
- 2. Its movement is achieved with continuous pressure buttons which stop the movement as soon as we stop pressing
- It can be with an open platform and a protective arm or an open cabin
- It is equipped with a “mushroom stop” emergency switch and perimeter obstruction sensors (or similar mechanism) for instantaneous shutdown when there is an obstacle in the path
(Article 30 LAW 4495/2017, par1.b: Minor internal repairs or alterations that do not change the load-bearing structure of the building, as well as constructions required for the movement or any form of service of people with disabilities or disabled people)
I have limited space. Can I have a lift?
Yes you can. Actually, it is the ideal solution for limited spaces. There are many dimensions available. However, we can also create a lift in to order to fit in any space.
I do not have any space. Can I have a lift?
Yes you can. There are many categories of lifts. An elevator in the absence of free space can be inclined, so it can be placed on the stairs and move parallel to it.
I have no free space and my staircase is narrow. Can I have a lift?
Yes you can. You can have a lift with a seat or otherwise you can choose Stairlifts.
Is the free space under the vertical lift dangerous for someone who will be there when the lift is parked in the upper stop?
Certified lifts are equipped with sensors, switches and any locking element to prevent crushing with anything it encounters along the way. However, for even greater security, there is the possibility to enter either a floor door or a protective cover of the bellows type, or in larger height differences to make a special aluminum construction or Iron construction in which the elevator will be housed.
I do not want to have the lift inside the house. What can I do?
You can place the lift outside the building and give access from the balcony or other opening of it. In case there is an external staircase, there is also the option to install a inclined stair lift with a platform or a seat.
When is a lift suitable for use by the disabled and wheelchair user?
On the one hand, it must be Certified. On the other hand, it must have specific minimum dimensions and minimum payload per category of lift.
How can I be sure that the lift is safe?
Ask the company that will supply it to you, to present to you ,along with its financial offer, the Certificate of lift. The Certificate must have a “Type Examination” certification. This means that it has been checked by an Accredited Independent Body and after inspections, measurements and tests it has been evaluated as completely safe for its use by persons.
I have heard the term "Home Lift". What is this?
They are elevators with a closed chamber. A chamber is used in the classical elevator, and it moves vertically between two or more levels. It has either an automatic floor door or a semi-automatic floor door, and a bus cabin door or a semi-automatic cabin door.It has also a photo curtain. For the rest, the features are the same as for a vertical lift (see question What is a lift?).
